The Cover of a Breviary of the XIIth century It is of silver with remarkably large Crystals in the border of which about one third has been stripped off. The centre represented in the plate exhibits in bold relief and rudely executed Christ in the act of crowning the Virgin. At the corners are the emblems of the Evangelists and beneath is the bust of a Monk who may fairly be presumed to have been the Copyist of the volume: HAINRICVS SACRISTANVS. Etched by R Girling

The central Compartment of the Cover of another Latin Evangelistarium of the Xlth century also of silver gilt and gemmed but of ruder execution. It displays a full length figure of our Saviour, the right hand raised in the attitude of benediction, the left supporting a studded volume the letters A and Q are over his shoulders. The Crucifixion an illuminated page from the beginning of the same MS. On the right is the Virgin staunching the wound in our Saviour's side on the left St John supporting what may perhaps have been intended to represent his Gospel. Mary Magdalene on a strangely smaller scale than the other two figures is clasping the Foot of the Cross. The darkening of the Sun from the sixth to the ninth hour is curiously pourtrayed above. Santos Portugueses - S. Frei Gil

S. Frei Gil, da Ordem dos Pregadores e natural de Vouzela, Bispado de Viseu e da principal Nobreza do Reino.

Foi no século insigne Doutor em Filosofia, Medicina e Nigromancia, que dizem aprendera do demónio e obteve além de outros Benefícios, o Arcediagado da terceira Cadeira na Sé de Lisboa e a Tesouraria na de Coimbra.

Depois, arrependido por inspiração de Deus, tomou o habito da Ordem Dominicana, onde com penitencias continuas e eficazes deprecações à Virgem Maria, alcançou dela restituir-lhe o príncipe das trevas a cédula que lhe tinha feito e assinado Fr. Gil para ser seu.

Logo dando se a estudos de Teologia, em que se graduou de Doutor, foi na sua Ordem o primeiro Mestre de Filosofia e Teologia, onde também foi Provincial, algumas vezes e Pregador del Rei, até que cheio de merecimentos e dias faleceu no Convento de Santarém a 14 de Maio de 1265.

O Venerável Bartolomeu da Costa, Tesoureiro e Cónego da Sé de Lisboa, chamado vulgarmente o Tesoureiro Santo, nasceu na Vila de Castelo Branco a 24 de Agosto de 1553 e foram as suas acções tão louváveis, em todo o tempo, que sempre serviu de exemplar.

 A caridade para os pobres resplandecia nele, singularmente vindo a gastar com eles tudo quanto possuía e herdara.

Faleceu a 27 de Março de 1608, com opinião de Santo e jaz na mesma Sé, diante da Capela do Santíssimo Sacramento, conservando-se na Casa do Cabido um retrato seu, com grande veneração.
